Dr. Jourdy is a firm believer in the use of the most current proven technological advances. As such, he is the first fellowship trained rhinologist in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley to offer in-office balloon sinuplasty as part of his committment to the most up-to-date patient care. With sub-specialty training and a practice largely dedicated to the treatment of sinus disease Dr. Jourdy's fund of knowledge allows him to better understand each individual patient's unique disease process and anatomy.
Balloon sinuplasty is a safe and effective procedure for many patients with sinusitis symptoms that have not improved adequately with medical treatments. When determining each patient's candidacy for in-office balloon sinuplasty, Dr. Jourdy takes into account numerous factors, including the medical history, constellation of symptoms, and the physical exam and nasal endoscopy.
For those patients who are deemed to be good candidates for this procedure, and decide to have it performed, the affected sinuses are opened in the same way that heart surgeons open up blocked arteries during balloon angioplasty. The procedure does not involve removal of bone or tissue from the nose and can be perfomed in the office under local anesthesia, with minimal discomfort, so that there is no need to go to an operating room or undergo general anesthesia. As such the procedure allows patients to return to normal activities quickly.
